Chris M. Clark at Stupid Easy Gallery this First Friday
Had the pleasure of hanging out with Chris M. Clark the other night as he put up new work in Fishtown and Northern Liberties.
Then, the next day he invited me to come check out the instal of his art show at Stupid Easy gallery, opening First Friday, October 7th (with a special showing this Saturday, Setpember 24th.)

And since I think everyone’s a painter, I asked Chris to send over a little bio, so you can get a better idea of what he actually does…
A graduate of Kutztown University with a degree in printmaking, Clark now lives in the city of Philadelphia. His work was recently published in Dwell Magazine. He has shown his work in various galleries in the Boston, Philadelphia & New York Metropolitan areas, Los Angeles CA, New Jersey, Maryland, Allentown and Harrisburg Pennsylvania.
Clark uses a mix of spray paint stenciling, screen printing, collage and painting to create environments that are rich in depth and texture. His work explores the relationship between the natural world and technology. It suggests a certain tension between the two elements, creating an energy that is both kinetic and foreboding.
Organic and manufactured forms along with portions of text and images from blueprints & diagrams are fantastically layered to create environments that feel engineered and beautifully toxic. The objects could be anywhere, and the complex physically worked surfaces can become so dense that there is little room for anything else. His blending of organic forms with manufactured surfaces suggests technology run amok and a natural world in accelerated flux. His richly layered and obsessively detailed environments leave you with a feeling of being taken out of time as well as out of place.
This kid has INCREDIBLE talent. I am in the process of collecting original art. I wish I was in his area because I see couple of items that I would love to showcase in my home. Without a doubt, this kid is something else.
I also think it’s cool that you went along with him while he is doing is thing. This reminds of Exit Through the Gift Shop (is that one word or two?).
Love this blog!
