Lies Returns to Philly with Commemorative Oliver Hazard Perry Pastes
(Photos from Lies)
To help celebrate Memorial Day a few weekends ago, artist, Lies, returned to Philly and put up some new pastes commemorating Oliver Hazard Perry, the naval commander that helped us win the war of 1812. (AKA, the ‘Ben Franklin’ of Lies’ hometown Erie, PA, he says.)
According to Lies, Oliver was ‘a bit of a rockstar,’ commanding the US fleet that won the Battle of Lake Erie and ultimately won us the War of 1812, which assured our independence from Britain. The City of Erie, PA is doing a year long celebration for the victory’s 200th anniversary, and Lies will be doing a Oliver Hazard Perry mural in town.
His pastes in Philly (some of which are photographed above) are all over South Philly, Old City, Northern Liberties, and Fishtown.
