Y’all, there’s a stunning new temporary art installation by UK-based artist Luke Jerram that’s on display (at no cost) at The Franklin Institute now through January 5, 2020! “Museum of the Moon is a photorealistic sculpture of the moon – measuring 23 feet in diameter and featuring high-resolution NASA imagery of the lunar surface that shows every cliff and crater,” the installation’s microsite reads.

Museum of the Moon is currently on a little tour around the world (just like the moon itself!) being presented at a number of different arts, science, and cultural venues over the coming years. And here in Philly the installation is being presented completely for free inside the The Franklin Institute at 20th street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, above the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial. Just walk into the museum, pass the ticketing folks, and walk right into that first big room! The rest of the museum requires a General Admissions ticket that costs $23 for adults and $19 for kids aged 3-11.

Really loved popping into to see this work, and appreciate the museum presenting it in a space that’s free and accessible! One note: if you want to see Museum of the Moon, I’d recommended seeing it earlier in the day. I visited it at 4:15pm and the room was mostly closed off as they prepared the space for a private event.
