LOVE this new mural on 13th street between Walnut and Sansom streets!! If anyone knows more about this, leave a comment… I’d really like to know who did it.

It’s by Kenny Scharf. Arrested Motion has an article and an interview with him on their site.

He’s a Brooklyn-based artist named Kenny Scharf, who was commissioned by the Mural Arts Program to create a contemporary work. The mural is sponsored by Goldman Properties and Liberty Me Dance Center.

The work is by the Artist, Kenny Scharf, but I’m not sure it was actually painted by him or his assistants. Very cool indeed. Goes well with the whole SamPan restaurant and Graffiti Bar theme going on here in this bldg.

It is indeed a Kenny Scharf! This was the kick off for a new collaboration between Mural Arts & Goldman Properties: a public art series that engages world-renowned visual artists and students from Mural Arts Big Picture art education program. Kenny was in town working with our kids & painting the mural (despite the ridiculous rain) & we are thrilled with the result. Next month, look for a new piece by AVAF (Assume Vivid Astro Focus), a collaborative composed of a group of visual performance artists who have been featured in Art Forum, Vogue, W Magazine, and who exhibit internationally. One of AVAF’s main collaborators, Christophe Hamaide-Pierson, will join our students for the first week of August to work on a wall at 1315 Sansom Street, where a dynamic, colorful, patterned mural will be completed with the students in their classroom and later assembled on the wall site.

This was a Kenny Sharf mural the Mural Arts Program created in partnership with Goldman Properties. It is the first of a series we will be doing working together to bring leading contemporary and street artists to Philadelphia.

The Miss Rockaway Armada has likewise been commissioned by the Mural Arts Program to develop a mural during their dual residency in Philadelphia this month (also hosted by the Philadelphia Art Alliance: http://rockawayatpaa.com/) – keep an eye out near Broad & Race!
