I had heard about them installing this big paint brush at PAFA (same dude — Claes Oldenburg — who did the big clothes pin at 15th and Market streets) as apart of the new Lensfest plaza on North Broad street, but I don’t remember hearing anything about this crashed plane… LOVE it!!

Looks pretty new too, as they were still doing something to the plane when I was taking these photos.

What do y’all think?

UPDATE: The plane is “Grumman Greenhouse.” He bought the plane on ebay and remade it into the sculpture. [That’s for the info, Wendy!]

Apparently, the plane will be home to some plants as well!!

  1. supposedly it will have vegetation all over it by the spring

  2. Dude this looks awesome! I’m totes takin a trip to see it!

  3. Forget the Oldenburg (not that I don’t love his work), the Jordan Griska is far more interesting in my opinion – although, he owes pretty much all of it to Claes in the first place.

  4. […] Photographed this AWESOME crashed-plane sculpture, by local Philly artist Jordan Griska, in early November, but I walked by it again the other day and it now appears the sculpture, aptly named “Gunman Greenhouse,” is exactly that — a greenhouse!! […]
