Got a few Tweets and emails about this origami installation outside Christ Church in Old City, at 2nd and Market streets, (and thank you for those Tweets and emails, by the way,) so I thought I’d walk over and check it out myself… I think it’s a nice little addition to the neighborhood.
Anyone know how they got up there? I poked around a bit, but didn’t see anything explaining them.

The Mural Arts Program and the First Person Arts are proud to present Peace is a Haiku Song, a new, multimedia collaboration with legendary artist Sonia Sanchez.
Peace and poetry share a long history as social change collaborators and with this project, the global community will explore the haiku as a vehicle for peace and urban transformation.
This installation is the visual result of the Peace is a Haiku Song mural project kick-off event at the First Person Arts Festival on November 13, 2011. At the event, Sonia Sanchez launched a city-wide haiku song, a collaborative online collection of poems to which people around the world may contribute their own three lines; she also led the Festival audience in a haiku writing experience.
The white paper cranes were created by students in the Mural Arts Program’s Art Education classes who have been learning about Sanchez this year as part of the curriculum created in conjunction with this mural project. Students learned about the meaningful tradition of creating paper cranes as a symbol of peace and helped produce them for our event.
This installation will grow and be showcased again at our Winter Art Education Exhibit on January 15 from 4pm to 7pm at the Crane Building. There will also be 10 mini-haiku murals scattered throughout the city and one large mural on the Avenue of the Arts.
