Abandoned since only early 2010 after a fire at their landmark factory on the 2900 block of West Hunting Park avenue ended up seeing the beloved Philly sweets makers move to South Philly’s bright-and-shiny Navy Yard, Tastykake’s ‘old’ Hunting Park factory is already in a strikingly decayed state.

Exploring the factory this past weekend with one of my favorite Philly-area photographers, Jimmy O’Donnell (seriously though, this dude’s eye is AMAZING – follow him on Instagram, if you’re not already,) we saw just how quickly things have deteriorated…

  2. The owner’s sold the Tasty Baking Company to Flowers, a baking company from Georgia. Moved TK to the NavyYard owned properties. Now Flowers plans to use the plant at the Navy Yard as a warehouse and move TK to bake out of GA. What will happen to the employees, will they be abandoned after 20, 30 40 years employment with Tasty Kake? This building on Hunting Park should have been cleared from all infectious materials, cleaned up and used as a warehouse instead. Most of North Philadelphia has old, abandoned factories that should be turned into apartments or senior citizens’ living assistance, I don’t know, maybe there would not be so many welfare-recipients living on the Streets of Philly as “homeless”?

  3. How sad, my Dad worked there as a baker from the first day it was operating and my olde brother retired there a few days before they moved.
