Philly Street Artist Installs Wheatpaste to 2020 Presidential Hopeful Marianne Williamson

June 28, 2019

Long shot 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson made a bit of a splash in the first Democratic primary debates last night spurring a lot of chatter and memes across social media commenting on her, let’s call it, unique approach to debating.

Before getting into presidential politics, Williamson was best known as a self-help author and lecturer who wrote 13 books, including four New York Times number one bestsellers. According to Philly/LA-based street artist Amberella, who wheatpasted this tribute to Williamson’s presidential campaign yesterday at Germantown avenue and 4th street in Kensington, the core of Williamson’s message is love. Anyone who watched the debates likely picked up on that with Williamson’s response to that final question.

Amberella’s new wheatpaste reads: “Choose love. Be Brave… Evolved and involved. Marianne 2020.” In talking with Amberella as she installed her piece, she made it clear to me that while she understands Williamson has little chance of becoming our next president, she hopes that some of Williamson’s underlying messages can reach more people through her campaign.

In fact, as a longtime reader of the 2020 presidential hopeful herself, Amberella told me her Girls wheatpaste series was directly inspired by Williamson’s writing. “My Girls series is based on Marianne Williamson’s book A Woman’s Worth,” Amberella wrote to me over text today. “It talks about the sacred duties and powers we have as women to light, lead, heal, protect, change, and love others and this world.”
