It’s no secret that the news industry has been in flux for the past couple of decades. The proliferation of home internet in the 1990s-2000s scattered audiences to new and diversified publications and platforms. And in more recent years, due to the wide adoption of algorithmic social media feeds, consumers are finding out about the news and their world in ways we can barely understand.

But maybe local journalism has found a happy home in podcasting?

In today’s episode, host Conrad Benner talks with Trenae Nuri about the state of local journalism. Trenae is an award-winning Philadelphia journalist, podcast host, and audio producer with nearly 20 years of experience. She currently hosts City Cast Philly and has previously worked at WHYY, The Wall Street Journal, and The Philadelphia Tribune. Trenae wants Philadelphians to have a voice and to be able to more easily access news and information about our city.
