Race Street Pier

Went to Race Street Pier yesterday with Alex, and while I still worry that this new Philly park will, and so far already is, going wildly underused by Philadelphians, I had a good time and took a bunch of photos. Things of note: weirdest water fountain I’ve ever seen that just drains to the sidewalk, a man caught a fish (then threw it right back), Duck Boats basically just circle the Race Street Pier before going back on land. So, random tip for tourists: save your Duck Boat money and go to Race Street Pier for free!!

    It’s so funny that you said underused! We couldn’t agree more. That’s why we’re coming up with a proposal now with other Old City businesses to sponsor an annual event there (wait til you hear the name, you might just love it!). We certainly need to utilize this amazing resource in Old City and just Philly in general! Thanks for the post, and maybe Streets Dept could be a sponsor too?! ;)

    It’s not in an area that gets a lot of foot traffic and it could use something to draw people in (maybe a street performer or two, or some food). Is it large enough to hold events that draw big crowds? From my visit the day it opened, I’m not so sure.

    Well, the fact that Philly Fringe Festival is taking over that building at the opening of the pier may help some. Time will tell…still way too early to decide.

    i was one of those enjoying the pier for fishing.till they banned it for all when only a few didnt respect the area.hope something can be done to reverse the new rule.
