Dietrich Meyer and Linnea Vegh were kind enough to ask me yesterday to come check out their behind-the-scenes preparations for Saturday’s Wheat Paste Your Heart Out show at Vox Populi. The show is a “a celebration of Philadelphia’s wheat pasters,” as the pair have said, and I can honestly tell you it will NOT disappoint.
If you don’t know about the project, let me try to sum it up for you. (Mind you it’s 2am and I haven’t slept in 20 hours. Bare with me.) Six weeks ago, Dietrich and Linnea installed a few dozen heavy wood panels throughout Philadelphia with a charge for Philly’s wheat pasters to cover the panels in their art. The panels would be later collected and shown at Vox. Simple enough, right? (Actually, I can tell you those panels were heavy as shit and I’m sure installing and uninstalling 30+ of them was kind of a hassle. I complain every time I have to put together anything from Ikea, so I can only image.) Anyway, after six weeks they pulled the panels down and started preparing for their show. (That’t were we are now, incase I lost you.) Only a few panels hadn’t been worked on (obviously those aren’t in the show,) and, oddly enough, a few were even stolen, but nevertheless they had more then enough creatively pasted panels left over… Seriously, I LOVE this idea, and I’m so excited for the show!!
Show is THIS Saturday, November 12th from 6-10pm at Vox Populi’s new AUX Space, 319 N 11th St, Third Floor.
This coming just a few weeks after Streets Dept Presents, I’m SOOOO excited that people are excited about street art in Philadelphia… I hope it keeps up!!
