Ishknits Yarnbombs Rocky into a Tourist; Tourists Not Pleased
After yarnbombing a bra and panties on the Frank Rizzo statue at 15th and JFK on Tuesday, Ishknits headed over to the Art Museum to bomb Rocky, giving the iconic statue a camera and fanny pack to help him better fit in with the crowds of tourists who line up daily to snap a shot with him… BRILLIANT!!
But just like the Rizzo piece, this didn’t last long either. In this case, it was due to some annoying folks who wanted Jessie to take down her installation so that they could take a photo with Rocky sans her mocking knit bomb. And after arguing with her for a few minutes, the woman called the police, who arrived quickly and torn it down… Lame tourists.
Yes, but the only reason they gave me an attitude was because these tourists were from PHILLY
Did they tell you where they were from?
Whatever, keep it up. I love your work. You’re creating controversy and dialogue, and at least people are talking about street art in Philly. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Keeping doing what you do, ish!
Please don’t keep doing what you do, ish. it’s really stupid.
Nah, I love it. That’s just, like, your opinion, man.
it’s totally hilarious, the rizzo thing was somewhat breathtaking actually.
Lets mock tourists and make them feel like idiots for wanting to take pictures of the Rocky statue. Please don’t visit our city, take pictures, or spend money.
These knittings are just real world spam for an etsy store.
The next bomb should be a giant shark that she can jump over.
Love the Ishknit Yarnbombs in so many ways! Thank you.
Seems vaguely familiar to me… Did a street artist with over a decade of experience with street art, graffiti and public sculpture ever do something similar to this? Oh wait, yes. He did. His name is Leon Reid IV and this is his sculpture modification – http://blog.vandalog.com/2011/10/leon-reids-tourist-in-chief/
Admittedly, Leon’s piece was done with permission, but the idea behind both sculpture modifications is essentially the same. Maybe Ishknits’ piece was “BRILLIANT,” but to me it seems like a carbon copy.
People are capable of having the same thoughts independently of each other.
Nice way to plug your blog.
LOVE IT!!!! Keep it up, Philly needs more amazing art like this.
