A Devastating Peek Inside The Boyd Theatre
Anyone walking down Sansom street the last several weeks has been privy to this pretty sad scene, a look inside the Boyd Theatre in its final days.
You know, you don’t have to know anything about architecture or historical preservation to look at these photos and realize that this is the kind of space we as a city should be saving and finding new uses for. (And there was a very long, 13-year battle to try and preserve this building, but alas!)
A Facebook friend’s recent re-sharing of this popular photo essay from 2013 looking at New York City’s GORGEOUS old Penn Station only helped to remind me of what we risk when we demolish our history like this.
So what’s in store for the former Boyd Theatre? A luxury residential tower owned by Pearl Properties, naturally… Cool.
its terrible what they’re doing to that building.
is it true they’re gonna tear down the mural on south 15th and south? the one with Aretha franklin?
Aren’t they saving the facade? It’s still there in the concepts.
If so, it sounds like that’s the best possible outcome. Beautiful theater and an interesting part of history but it never got the enough weight behind it to save and restore the entire place.
