Let’s Talk About Representation in Public Art: Help Bring Monument Lab to Philadelphia This Fall
What do the monuments across our cities tell us about the histories we collectively choose to remember in our public spaces?
In the fall of 2017, Mural Arts Philadelphia will work with curators Paul Farber and Ken Lum, along with 21 emerging and world-renowned artists, to bring a series of temporary public artworks to Philadelphia for Monument Lab, a participatory, citywide project that will ask: What is your vision for a monument that represents Philadelphia? And today they’re asking for your help to fully fund it!
This unprecedented public art project will actively address the lack of representation in the monuments around Philadelphia. Did you know, for instance, that there’s only two monuments to historical women in the ENTIRE city of Philadelphia? And neither of those are women of color, because of course :(
I’m so proud to say that I’ve been working with Mural Arts Philadelphia and Monument Lab over the last several months to help launch this Kickstarter, and I’d LOVE for you to click this link to learn more about the project, consider making a donation, and share it across your social media channels!
