Don’t Miss The Barnes’ “Person of the Crowd” Open House This Wednesday

Y’all, this is a can’t miss!

You may remember when I took over the Barnes Foundation’s Instagram last March to explore their Person of the Crowd exhibition installations that were installed in public spaces around Philly. Well this Wednesday (May 10th), from 5-8pm, the Barnes is inviting everyone into the museum to see the full Person of the Crowd exhibition for free – as well as to meet one of the exhibition’s 50+ artists, Ayana Evans, who will be hosting an interactive food performance for which you could be randomly selected to join in!

About the exhibition: Person of the Crowd: The Contemporary Art of Flânerie celebrates the spirit of flânerie with over 50 international artists who have taken to the street to play detective, make fantastic maps, scavenge and shop for new materials, launch guerrilla campaigns, and make provocative spectacles of themselves to speak to issues as diverse as commodity fetishism, gentrification, gender politics, globalization, racism, and homelessness.

About Ayana Evans: Ayana Evans is a NYC based artist and Tyler School of Art alum. As the artist writes in an artist statement on her website, “My art explores the intricacies of my life as a social and culturally diverse being… My ideas are my artwork and vice versa, they collaborate in acknowledging, collecting and creating evidence of my ‘self’, which is often registered to socio-political history matters; presented as critical or banal queries. I am fueled by the significances and the thrills of finding these limitless (re) discoveries, ideas and possibilities, that (re) visit traces of where I have or never been.” (Read the full artist’s statement here!)

Here’s a little sneak peek of the exhibition I took when we announced my Instagram Takeover on the Barnes’ Facebook page last March (and yes, that’s an original Keith Haring piece!):

For my fellow Instagrammers: Unlike the rest of the Barnes’ permanent collection, photography is not only welcomed but encouraged for this Person of the Crowd Open House – and you can share your photos on Instagram using #PersonoftheCrowd for a chance to be featured by the Barnes.

Hope to see y’all out on Wednesday!
