It’s Your Last Chance to See 9 Brilliantly Painted MLK Statues Around Philly

“Dr. King is a man of many ideals. He wanted people to come together in peace, no matter their skin color. And you look around this room, you see artists of every color, every race. I think we’re living his dream.” -Shamar Clement, Student at Philadelphia High School for the Creative & Performing Arts
This winter, students from around Philadelphia worked together on a project commissioned by Comcast to paint nine busts of Martin Luther King, Jr. The busts were painted with images inspired by different influential and enduring quotes from Dr. King and were then installed around Philly just before MLK Day this past January. Now there’s only a few days left to see the statues out around town!
The project is called Keep Marching, and it was created to honor and celebrate the words of one of America’s most prominent Civil Rights leaders in Dr. King. Each of the statues has been in a public or freely accessible space for the last number of weeks, and each will come down at the end of this month, Black History Month.
