The Love + Grit Storefronts Project: Celebrating Local BIPOC & LGBTQ+ Owned Philly Businesses with Public Art

Excited to work with Philly artists and Visit Philadelphia for our new Love + Grit Storefronts Project, which celebrates local Black, brown, Asian, Indigenous and/or LGBTQ+ owned Philly businesses with original public art!
For the project 12 artists with Philly roots each created two original artworks inspired by two local BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ businesses of their choice. We’ve installed those artworks in the windows of empty storefronts around the city, where they will remain on view for at least the next month.

The 12 artists include: Jonai Gibson-Selix, Derick Jones, Fabiola Lara, Manny Hernandez, Illkya Acosta, Kathy Chung, Nazeer Sabree, Mz. Icar, Cindy Lozito, Lauren Lopez, Tiff Urquhart, and Tash Billington!
The project was created with Visit Philadelphia, the Love + Grit podcast, and Our People Entertainment. It was curated by Ginger Rudolph and myself, who y’all might remember collaborated with Visit Philly in 2020 for our Sisterly Love Project.

The 24 business celebrated include: Franny Lou’s Porch, The Modern Republic, The Sable Collective, Inked Vintage, Faheem’s Hands of Precision, South Philly Barbacoa, Ill Exotics, Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books, Puyero Venezuelan Flavor, Grant Blvd, Lil Pop Shop, P’s & Q’s, El Merkury, Freedom Apothecary, The African American Museum in Philadelphia, Yowie, Queen and Rook Game Cafe, Philadelphia Diamond Company, Girl’s Auto Clinic, Cuba Libre, Sabbatical Beauty, Black and Mobile, Duafe Hair Salon, and Vault + Vine!
