Philly Celebrating Philly: Artist Roberto Lugo Honors Tarik “Black Thought” Trotter with Stunning Kensington Mural

Completed this past summer, I finally got a chance to check out one of the most stunning new murals created in Philly this year!
Created by artist Roberto Lugo, the mural pays homage to Philly’s own, Tarik “Black Thought” Trotter of The Roots. Titled, The Talented Mr. Trotter: You Can Be Anything, the mural is located on the new building for The Clay Studio in Kensington at Master and American Streets.
Born in Kensington and today a world-renowned potter, this location for Roberto was beyond perfect. And its centerpiece, Black Thought, is not only a beloved Philadelphian but a board member and supporter of Mural Arts Philadelphia, who brought this incredible artwork to our public space.

It’s hard to imagine a Philadelphian more deserving of a mural than Black Thought!
And y’all, Philly has a lot of murals. Something close to 5,000, if you’re keeping track. But there’s nothing like this absolute masterpiece. It was such a joy to see in person. Definitely do the same yourself, if you’ve yet to.
