Bernie Sanders Mural Pops Up in Philly

God bless Brooks Bell and the people at Sweettooth

You may remember a few weeks back, when the Decades Hat Co.‘s Brooks Bell pasted over each and every Donald Trump-infused poster that some silly NY-based clothing company put up around Philly, covering them rightfully instead with THESE brilliant “Bernie (Fucking) Sanders” pastes. Well, those pastes were quickly torn down by said corny NY-based clothing company. But alas, a Philly candy company, Sweettooth, comes to the rescue! And this evening, Brooks finished a Bernie Sanders 2016 mural on Sweettooth’s exterior at 4th and Bainbridge!

Love when Philly businesses hire artists in this way. And LOVE this mural… Bernie for the win! #FeelTheBern

UPDATE: Here’s a quick cellphone photo of the finished mural this morning from Brooks Bell himself…

THATS REALLY SAD THAT SWEETTOOTH AND BB DECIDED TO PAINT OVER THE JON WEIR (R.I.P) mural that was visited by friends of Jon and his daughter often to remember a great young man for the last 5 years..someone that was a huge part of many peoples lives..and a major person involved in the 4th street scene history.. this political ad over a great loved persons face (literally-a portrait) is just in bad taste..it’s like a corny BENETTON ad but for a politician.

There’s nothing cool about painting over a mural which memorializes the deceased. They should be ashamed of themselves.

It’s just 5 years ago when that wall was just a dark garbage filled corner,a memorial was painted for a person who spent more time ON THAT STREET than at his own home,it brought color and comfort to a neighborhood..a memorial somewhere else does not bring a smile to the people of 4th street who are still there and understand it,When that wall was being painted the diner across the street shit a brick, called the cops and put up a shit show..NOW that has paved the way for artists to come (a few times a year) and paint little slogans and tounge in cheek humor art, guys leave that to the experts like ESPO,and if ESPO did have to paint that B.S. BS then you could bet he would of reached a little higher and painted like a little setting sun w/ WEIR in it or something to that extent.its about respect..time keeps going ..the world turns ..nothing lasts forever..I get it..just show a little fuckin couth and respect…like u said “mural capital of America”..go find another spot…it is what it is.gone.

Bernie Sanders you are so unbelievably not in touch with your voters you are only thinking of yourself did you even bother to look at the mural you painted over or did you just not give a damn it clearly stated on the wall that it was in memory of John this wall has stood for many years and my family has visited it often it helped to ease our pain and bring us peace as John was an artist and YOU took that away from us if this is how you treat people then I hope no one votes for you and I hope the people that read this think twice before voting for someone who clearly does not think of others and only the political gain and his own family no one else’s seems to matter

Lisa, you realize Bernie Sanders had nothing to do with this mural, right?

Absolutely SHAMEFUL to destroy a memorial memorial with political propaganda! And, seriously, what politician paints over the American flag?? A grieving family, during the hardest part of the year to be without loved ones, has been crushed by this thoughtless act.

My friend Johns memorial mural is under that. I can’t believe they painted over it with this garbage. This is disgusting!

Some short years ago I lost a good friend, someone lost a tall father, a mother lost a baby boy and the world lost a great human.
Albeit my ideas align much with the bundle of independent thinkers promoting Bernie Sanders and his campaign, I revile renegade self promotion.
I despise power art and bully advertisement.
I am not crazy about tagging over someone else’s name in the hopes to have a louder voice.
John was soft spoken and smart. Painting over his memorial in primary colors will not silence his strong whisper.
While Bernie Sanders will be long forgotten in a few 18 months from now, my soul brother friend and someone’s beloved father and someone’s beloved friend, shall remain, painted in portrait underneath all them politics, quite alive.

“Without People You’re Nothing” is a great philosophy for Sweettooth to promote.
It epitomizes the philosophy generating wide support for Bernie Sanders 2016.
I also like the hands drawn holding up the peace sign in multi color, it reminds me of Kwanza references. I hope this mural makes other people smile as it did me.

Agreed with most of the commentators on here. And I wish cats would get his name spelled right. It was JON. And it is a shame Brooks Bell painted over it. Shame on him and Sweettooth. This Sanders “mural” will be inconsequential by the end of 2016, but Jon’s memory will live on forever, I guess just not at 4th and Bainbridge.

His name is spelt “John” … as I dated him in our early 20s and have cards and notes by him … Unless he got rid of the “h” at some point! Last I saw him was 04-05. I just learned of his death a week ago. Heartbreaking but forever loved.
