Philly was recently named the “Best City for Street Art” by USA Today readers, even though they definitely mean all of the art of Philly’s public space with the honor. The photos they used in the promotion of the reader poll included murals, graffiti, and street art.
Ultimately, this should come as no surprise, as Philly is steeped with history and institutions that have helped to paint the city we see today.
And if this national acknowledgement has found you more curious about the art of Philadelphia’s public space, look no further than our Art Outside podcast to catch you up to speed! In it, we’ve got interviews with a yarnbomber, a sticker artist, muralists, public arts orgnaizers, and even the Philadelphian who’s credited as being the first modern-day graffiti writer.
